What the Help Center actually covers

The official Help Center is organized into a handful of broad categories. Here's what each one actually covers, in plain English.

01

Login, recovery, and security

Account access, password resets, two-factor authentication, video selfies, login issues, and hacked account recovery. Most of the "I can't log in" problems live here.

02

Managing your account

Profile settings, account type changes, deactivation and deletion, data download, and notification preferences. This is the settings-level documentation.

03

Privacy and reporting

Private accounts, blocking, restricting, muting, who can see what, and how to report content. Everything that controls who interacts with you.

04

Terms and policies

Community Guidelines, Terms of Use, and the specific rules Instagram enforces. This is where you find the exact wording of what's allowed and what isn't.

05

Reels and content creation

How to record Reels, specs for photos and videos, cover images, audio, and the recommendation guidelines that determine what gets shown to non-followers.

06

Business tools

Professional Dashboard, Insights, Promote, Shopping, and Meta Business Suite. Where the documentation lives for everything a business account unlocks.

The limits

When the Help Center doesn't help

The Instagram Help Center is thorough at documenting rules. It's much worse at resolving individual account problems. Three limitations come up repeatedly:

  • There's no general support phone number. Instagram discontinued phone support entirely. The old support@instagram.com email no longer handles account appeals.
  • Most issues are resolved through in-app flows, not through the Help Center itself. The Help Center tells you which flow to use, but you have to complete it inside the app. If the flow fails or the button doesn't appear, the Help Center often has no further step.
  • Account-specific problems can't be resolved by reading documentation. If your account was wrongly disabled, restricted, or locked out, the only path is an appeal or verification flow. No amount of reading will change the outcome — the action happens in the app.

If you've hit one of those limits, start with our account recovery overview, which covers every recovery problem with the exact fix for each.
